The Cranberries’ Guitarist Remembers Dolores O’Riordan In Open Letter

The Cranberries’ guitarist Noel Hogan has shared an open letter paying tribute to his bandmate Dolores O’Riordan who passed away earlier this week at age 46.

The band shared a brief statement following the news saying they were “devastated” by the passing but now Hogan has shared an extensive tribute on Rolling Stone.

Hogan, who co-founded the group and co-wrote many of their songs, recalled the first day meeting O’Riordan writing, “Dolores came in to hear us play and we got to hear her sing.”

“We were all blown away that this small girl from Limerick had such an amazing voice. The fact that she wasn’t already in a band was a miracle.”

Hogan also said that the band had hoped to start the next album, “in the coming months,” and announce some shows. The band released their last album Something Else just last year.

He noted that he had only spoken to O’Riordan last Friday. “We spoke about getting back to work – recording and new tracks we were working on,” he wrote.

“Dolores had a lot of things going on in her life over the past 10 years – good and bad,” he added.

He concluded that she’s left behind, “a great legacy.”

Tributes have flowed for O’Riordan with everyone from Aussie band like Middle Kids to Hozier, Kodaline and Liz Phair sharing tributes.
