Laneway Festival Unveils New Text Line To Help Keep Punters Safe

Laneway Festival is expanding its 1800 LANEWAY hotline with a new text line feature to help keep punters safe at this year’s events.

After launching 1800 LANEWAY last year in collaboration with Camp Cope to allow ticket-holders to report any inappropriate behaviour, organisers have announced that in 2018 punters will also be able to text the hotline via the number 0404 242 555 (to call the hotline, it’s 1800 5263 929).

Laneway is also partnering with the international Good Night Out Campaign this year, to implement more safety strategies and to give their staff specialist training.

“There’s no reason anyone should feel unsafe while out enjoying music with friends, and it’s proactive and innovative measures like specialist training for staff and reporting via text that make all the difference,” says Good Night Out Co-Director Bryony Beynon.

“Cultural change is not easy, but as a global organisation working in this space we’ve been really impressed by Laneway’s commitment to best practice. We hope it has a positive impact across the Australian festival scene.”

Members of Laneway 2018 acts like Pond and Dream Wife have thrown their support behind 1800 LANEWAY and the new text line in a series of video messages, which you can check out below. You can also read Good Night Out’s Laneway Festival ‘Active Bystanders Guide’ here, so that you’re in the know.

Laneway Festival announced its 2018 set times earlier this week, before the festival hits Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Fremantle in February.
