Aussie Music Festival Attendees Alerted Over Deadly Bat Virus

Health authorities have put an urgent call out to punters who attended the Escape Music Festival this past weekend over a deadly bat virus.

The Metro South Public Health Unit have flashed the bat signal to anyone who may have come into contact with a small bat in the women’s toilets during the Gold Coast event, which went down on Saturday 24th February, asking them to phone them “urgently”.

“Scratches, bites and bat saliva into the eyes, nose or mouth from a bat are very serious and require immediate medical assessment to prevent the potential development of Australian Bat Lyssavirus infection,” public health physician Kari Jarvinen tells News Corp.

The killer virus has claimed the lives of three Queenslanders since 1996, however Dr. Jarvinen notes that seeking speedy treatment following a bat scratch or bite can circumvent serious disease and possible death.

Anyone who may have come into contact with Escape Festival’s tiny winged gatecrasher is urged to phone the health unit STAT on 3176 4000.
