Ed Sheeran Breaks Record, Sells Over 1 Million Tickets To Australian & NZ Tour

Australia’s thirst for Ed Sheeran has absolutely shattered sales records.

As the fanta-mopped pop prince prepares to kickstart his new Aussie tour in Perth this evening, promoters Frontier Touring have released some absolutely ballistic statistics about how the shows have performed at the box office, including the casual bombshell that Ed’s run has just become the highest selling single concert tour in Australian history.

In fact, over one million Aussie and Kiwi Sheerios have snapped up tickets to the singer’s stadium trek.

It means Sheeran has shattered the record set by Dire Straits 32 years ago, when they sold 950,000 tickets on one tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1986.

In other ginger-nuts stat news, Ed’s also set the venue record for number of shows on a tour for Perth’s Optus Stadium, Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium and Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.

His forthcoming tour also represents the biggest stadium tour of Australia and NZ EVER, while setting venue records for the highest ever cumulative attendance on one tour for Optus Stadium, Sydney’s ANZ Stadium, Etihad and Suncorp, plus NZ’s Mt Smart Stadium and Forsyth Barr Stadium.

In fact, the number of ticket sales for Sheeran’s show in Dunedin is around about the exact population of the whole damn city!

“Frontier has toured some of the biggest names in music, including Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Paul McCartney, and The Rolling Stones, but I’ve never seen a tour like Ed’s. To sell one million tickets is simply phenomenal,” said company head and second most powerful person in the Australian music industry (apparently), Michael Gudinski yesterday, and we can practically see the dollar signs lighting up in his eyes RN.

“Frontier has toured Ed from the beginning – from small theatres through to multiple stadiums and his outstanding work ethic, talent, passion and dedication to his fans has produced this incredible result – he is truly gifted,” he said.

“Since I’ve gotten to know Ed I’ve discovered his fondness for breaking records and I can absolutely say he’s smashed this one out of the park and I’m very proud Frontier Touring has been a big part of it.”

Not bad for a dude who used to come down under to busk on the streets.
