System Of A Down Frontman Joins Prophets Of Rage To Honour Chris Cornell In New Zealand

System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian has joined rap-rock supergroup Prophets Of Rage on stage in New Zealand overnight, to help pay tribute to late Soundgarden and Audioslave singer Chris Cornell.

Taking to the stage at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Tuesday, Tankian — who currently lives in a town north of Auckland called Warkworth — joined Prophets Of Rage for a cover of the Audioslave song ‘Like A Stone’. Watch footage of the performance below.

“Thanks Serj Tankian for a stunning, emotional, beautiful, chilling tribute to Chris Cornell tonight in Auckland,” Prophets Of Rage guitarist Tom Morello said on Instagram after the show.

This isn’t the first time Tankian has made a surprise appearance with Prophets Of Rage to pay tribute to Cornell. They first performed their cover of ‘Like A Stone’ together at Germany’s Rock am Ring festival in June 2017, a month after Cornell’s death.

Prophets Of Rage are due to perform at Download Festival in Melbourne this weekend, after performing a headline show in Sydney on Thursday night. They will also perform in Brisbane next week, and you can catch all the Aussie tour dates right here.
