PREMIERE: Hen Channels ‘X’-Era Kylie Minogue On Sultry & Empowering New Single ‘In Red’

Adelaide singer-songwriter Hen is back with a sultry new single dubbed ‘In Red’, a thoughtful meditation on female sexuality wrapped up in a catchy AF musical package.

The empowering pop number is reminiscent of  X-Era Kylie Minogue, delivered with the seductive yet confident charm of the flame-haired indie vocalist.

Hen says the themes of the song are very personal to her, and she wrote the lyrics with the aim of unravelling the stereotype surrounding the ‘hot girl’ image in pop culture.

“I wrote ‘In Red’ after a fairly heartbreaking experience.” Hen explains. “I’m sure many of us have felt at times like they were being compared unfavourably to someone else and it’s an incredibly uncomfortable feeling. Especially because, as girls, we’re brought up to believe that other women are the enemy. ‘They’ll steal your man,’ ‘They’re prettier than you’. It’s such an ugly way to think.

“I wrote ‘In Red’ as a celebration of women and femmes and as a challenge to the trend we often see of women being cast as villains for being ‘different’ or outspoken,” she continues. “It’s actually probably the most upbeat song I’ve ever written, which just goes to show that you can take a shitty situation and make it work for you.”
