The Presets Release Euphoric New Song & Video ‘Downtown Shutdown’

The Presets are back with the third single ‘Downtown Shutdown’ off their forthcoming album ‘HI VIZ’.

The Aussie duo pushed back their album release a few weeks so that they could polish the video for the song and they haven’t disappointed, delivering a vibrant, soulful and warped clip.

The song features Touch Sensitive on bass and The St Paul’s Lutheran Church Choir which comprises of refugees and young people from places like Burundi, D.R. Congo and South Sudan who are now living in rural Victoria.

Originally, they thought that the song would go in a similar direction to their hallmark single ‘My People’ but it took a turn.

“I always figured the words ‘Downtown Shutdown’ would eventually be set to a more late-night, aggressive, banging Presets track like ‘My People’ but fortunately Kim [Moyes] had the idea of taking it in pretty much the opposite direction,” Julian Hamilton said of the song.

“I wanted a feel-good, Sunday afternoon, street party vibe for this one. We dug into a lot of 80’s New York block party and disco music – things like The Sugarhill Gang, Was (Not Was), Baby Oliver’s Primetime, and especially Malcom McLaren’s Duck Rock album.”

The song follows on from previous singles ‘Do What You Want’ and ’14U+14ME’. In June, the boys will set out on a massive national tour following the release of the record.
