Melbourne Duo Willow Beats Are Going On Indefinite Hiatus

Melbourne electronic duo Willow Beats have announced they are going on indefinite hiatus, after spending over seven years together on the project.

Announced via a statement on the band’s Facebook page, group member Kalyani Ellis said this has been something the duo have been talking about for a while.

“This may come as a surprise but it’s something we’ve been mulling over for a while,” the statement reads.

“I have worked on this project since the age of 14 (I’m 21 now) and am ready for some time to work on new things and explore myself as an artist and person outside of this all consuming project.”

The other half of Willow Beats, Narayana Johnson, also said in the statement that they both need time to work on themselves.

“I want to give a huge thanks to everybody who’s been apart of this crazy journey!,” he said.

“We both need some time to work on our art and selves. I’m sure you’ll see/hear us round! Thank you so much for the continued support. We honestly have the most incredible supporters. You mean the world to me.”

It’s not all bad news, however. Willow Beats aren’t saying goodbye without one last party — or in this case, two last parties. They’ll be celebrating the last seven years by performing two shows — one in Sydney and one in Melbourne — which will outline the very best of the band, and will also feature one brand new song.
