Weezer Have Blessed The Rains (Down In Africa) With A Cover Of Toto’s ‘Africa’

Weezer have done it — they’ve released a cover of Toto‘s classic song ‘Africa’, after fans begged them for months to do so.

The band bowed to pressure after a high school student created a ‘weezer cover africa by toto’ Twitter account with the sole purpose of convincing the band to bless the rains (down in Africa), and the account has done damn well.

Weezer’s cover of ‘Africa’, which you can stream in full below, is a stunning remake of the original song, complete with echoing drums and whispers of some quiet conversation. It’s also got a kick-ass rocked-up chorus, and is generally a beautiful specimen.

During the campaign to have Weezer cover ‘Africa’, the band covered a different Toto song — ‘Rosanna’ — to mess with their fans in typical Weezer fashion.

Now that the ‘Africa’ cover is a real thing that exists, the ‘weezer cover africa by toto’ Twitter account is (appropriately) losing its shit…

Weezer last toured Australia in support of Foo Fighters earlier this year. During the tour, frontman Rivers Cuomo joined Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl to cover the KISS classic ‘Detroit Rock City’.

In related news, Toto guitarist Steve Lukather told Music Feeds earlier this year that the band are hoping to bless Australia with a tour in 2019. Now we just need a Twitter account we can use to beg them for one.
