Drake has released a statement in response to a photo of himself in blackface, which was used by Pusha T as the cover art for his recent diss track ‘The Story Of Adidon’.
The photo, which was taken by photographer David Leyes in 2007, “was not from a clothing brand shoot or my music career”, Drake told fans on his Instagram story today.
“I know everyone is enjoying the circus, but I want to clarify this image in question,” he said.
“The photos represented how African Americans were once wrongfully portrayed in entertainment.”
The Canadian rapper said he and a fellow actor “were attempting to use our voice to bring awareness to the issues we dealt with all the time as black actors at auditions”.

In ‘The Story Of Adidon’, Pusha T accused Drake of fathering a secret child with former adult film actress Sophie Brussaux. The song arrived after Drake dissed Pusha T — who is President of Kanye West’s GOOD Music label — in his track ‘Duppy Freestyle’ over the weekend, while also invoicing GOOD Music for $100,000.
Drake is preparing to release his new project Scorpion in June.
