Donald Glover Is Apparently In Talks To Play The Next Willy Wonka

As if he wasn’t busy enough already, Donald “Childish Gambino” Glover is now reportedly in talks to play fictitious candy tycoon Willy Wonka on the big screen.

The accomplished slashie, who’s had his hands full recently casually creating Grammy Award-winning tunesculture-shaking music videos and all-star musical collabs while teasing mysterious new musical projects and expanding his own music festival to NZ, all while simultaneously starring in Hollywood blockbusters Solo: A Star Wars Story and the live action Lion King remake while writing, directing and starring in his Atlanta TV series, is now apparently eyeing off the role of Roald Dahl’s eccentric chocolate factory CEO for his next film project.

The Collider claims that Warner Bros. have shortlisted Glover for the part made iconic by Gene Wilder (and then creepy by Johnny Depp) in a spinoff movie (not a remake) taking place in the Willie Wonka universe.

Actors Ryan Gosling and Ezra Miller (star of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) have also been shortlisted for the role, with Paddington 2‘s Paul King directing.

But we reckon Glover is still the prime candidate and could do ol’ Willy what Heath Ledger did for The Joker.

In short, would watch.
