Love Letter To A Record: Pale Waves’ Heather Barron-Gracie On The Cure’s ‘Disintegration’

Many of us can link a certain album to pivotal moments in our lives. Whether it’s the first record you bought with your own money, the chord you first learnt to play on guitar, the song that soundtracked your first kiss, the album that got you those awkward and painful pubescent years or the one that set off light bulbs in your brain and inspired you to take a big leap of faith into the unknown – music is often the catalyst for change in our lives and can even help shape who we become.

In this series, Music Feeds asks artists to reflect on their relationship with music and share with us stories about the effect music has had on their lives.

Here are their love letters to records that forever changed their lives.

Heather Barron-Gracie, Pale Waves – The Cure’s Disintegration

My all-time favourite album is Disintegration by The Cure…

I was eighteen when I first fully appreciated the genius of Robert Smith. I had a great childhood, as my dad was very passionate about music, so I grew up with him constantly playing music around the house. Then I moved to Manchester and met Ciara who re-introduced me to The Cure and the album Disintegration and it totally blew my mind. The song-writing is phenomenal, and I feel this album is one of Robert’s most honest pieces of work. Every song on the album feels like the soundtrack to someone’s life. The opening track ‘Plainsong’ instantly stole my heart; as soon as I heard the cinematic personality of the track, I knew it would be one of my favourite albums.

This album to me has such an important place in my heart and reminds me of meeting one of the most important people in my life; Ciara. I feel this album will inspire me for the rest of my life and if I had to disappear with one album to listen to for the rest of time I would take Disintegration with me, always. So thank you Robert Smith!
