Paul Kelly & More Join BIGSOUND’s 2018 Speaker Lineup

BIGSOUND‘s 2018 speaker lineup has just been ~embiggened~ with the addition of some wise and powerful chatterboxes from across this great land and beyond.

Heading to Bris Vegas’s illustrious Fortitude Valley this September to share their wisdom nuggets with the children of the domestic music industry include legendary Aussie singer-songwriter Paul Kelly who’ll be delivering a very special keynote interview.

Whilst we wish it was entitled ‘How To Make Gravy’ or else ‘How Not To Do All The Dumb Things’, a press release informs us that the iconic troubadour will be using his keynote to “reflect on both his career and the future of Australian music” in a bid to “educate and inspire both those new to the industry and veterans needing a reminder of why Australian music is the best in the world”.

Meanwhile, other BIG names to grace this year’s speaker list include Erin Kelly-Burkett and Lagwagon’s Joey Cape from seminal US punk label Fat Wreck Chords, who’ll crash the party with a house-rockin’ prezzo.

They join an impressive list of international and domestic chinwaggers at Australia’s biggest music conference including Dave Grohl’s mum.

ICYMI: this year, BIGSOUND will be largely ditching the talking-at-you format with its forums, moving instead to “IRL conversations” where delegates will be encouraged to channel their inner mature-age-student and take part in the chat.

The conference has announced its first three forums. The first, dubbed ‘The New Music Business’ will look at how best to introduce and enforce new ideas in the industry.

The second will ask the question “What would the current music industry look like if it was invented by our First Nations people?”

Finally the third will importantly look at ‘Changing Music Industry Behaviour’ and the psychology behind it.

Today’s announcement also includes the advent of an industry-first mental health workshop, run by trained clinicians, to help attendees “identify mental health issues, learn to manage them and create strategies to help others”.

QMusic CEO and BIGSOUND producer Joel Edmondson says this evolution of the BIGSOUND conference experience “is designed to give delegates exposure to learning experiences that can radically transform how they think, work and relate to other people”.

It comes after the first instalment of the BIGSOUND 2018 music lineup was previously announced featuring Ella Hooper, Eilish Gilligan, Cable Ties, Slowly Slowly, Arteries, Eat Your Heart Out and loads more.

Australia’s biggest music conference will be going down in Queensland’s Fortitude Valley from Tuesday, 4th September to Friday, 7th September.

Like last year, all showcasing artists are eligible to win a share in the massive Levi’s® Music Prize.
