Paul Kelly & Beasts Of Bourbon Guitarist Spencer P. Jones Has Died

New Zealand-born guitarist and former member of Paul Kelly & The Coloured Girls and Beasts Of Bourbon, Spencer P. Jones, has died after being diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer earlier this year.

Jones’ wife Angie Louise Jones confirmed his death in a statement overnight, saying:

“My husband, my partner, my soulmate and my friend Spencer Patrick Jones passed away peacefully earlier this evening holding my hand after being sung a beautiful song by Angela Howard.

“It was truely beautiful and he is now at peace with his brothers in arms Brian H Hooper & Ashley Morgan Jones.”

Back in June, the Jones family announced doctors had found a tumour in Spencer’s liver, and said he had been given less than six months to live.

Jones, who also performed with bands like The Escape Committee, The Johnnys, The Nothing Butts and as a solo artist during his career, was involved in Australia’s punk and garage rock scene since the 1970s.

His death comes after his former Beasts Of Bourbon bandmate Brian Hooper died in April.
