Chicago band The Orwells have announced their breakup, just days after denying a range of sexual assault allegations made against three members of the group.
Taking to social media this morning, The Orwells posted a brief statement which simply read, “The Orwells have disbanded.”
Earlier this week, the rock outfit denied a number of allegations made against band members Mario Cuomo, Henry Brinner and Grant Brinner, which surfaced in a document posted to Reddit.
The band released a statement describing the claims as “baseless allegations brought as a personal attack against us”.
“While callow altercations and vulgar language we’ve used in the past must be recognized and owned up to, the accusations of sexual assault are completely unfounded,” they said.
The band also cancelled a hometown show at Chicago’s Metro, which was scheduled for 23rd November.
The Orwells toured Australia for the first time last year, off the back of their third (and possibly final) album Terrible Human Beings. The band released their second album Disgraceland in 2014, and their debut Remember When in 2012.
