Watch: The Shins Cover David Bowie

The Shins have played their first show with their rejigged line-up, as momentum gathers pace towards their new album, the follow-up to 2007’s Wincing The Night Away.

The show took place in Eugene, Oregon, as One Thirty BPM report. The band will play further dates in the US in September and October.

The Eugene show was notable, however, for James Mercer and band playing a cover of David Bowie‘s Ashes To Ashes You can see amateur footage of that below.

It was recently reported that The Shins had signed to Columbia, and that the new album enjoys the the production services of Greg Kurstin.

The new Shins line-up, meanwhile, includes Fruit Bats frontman Eric Johnson, who has his own particularly excellent album to promote in the coming months. He doesn’t seem to be involved with the current tour, mind you, with Richard Swift, Joe Plummer, Yuuki Matthews and Jessica Dobson accompanying Mercer this time round.
