The Flaming Lips Avoid Injury In Stage Collapse Ordeal

The Flaming Lips have been involved in a scary ordeal while playing at Tulsa’s Brady Block Party in Oklahoma when the stage collapsed. Fierce winds began and the crew were forced to cut electricity off; soon after a large video projection screen fell over.

Bassist Michael Ivins told Rolling Stone: We were all on stage thinking, ‘What are we actually going to do here?’ Then the screen started moving. There wasn’t a lot of space between the screen and an eight-foot drop. I basically had to leap over one of the legs [of the screen] to get out of the way. It was definitely pretty crazy.

This seems to be a repeating occurrence lately; three weeks ago at the Ottawa Blues Festival in Canada the stage collapsed during Cheap Tricks’ set.
