Brian May Was Close To Suicide After Freddie Mercury’s Death

Queen guitarist Brian May has spoken about the period after Freddie Mercury’s death admitting that he was close to suicide in 1991. May also lost his father at around the same time Freddie died and in an interview with the Daily Mail he said:

I didn’t want to live … I regarded myself as completely sick. I was wounded and very much in pieces. I went into a serious depression – I was subsumed by feelings of loss. Being in a touring band puts your friends and family on hold. You’re focused on one thing: the band. When that finishes, you’re out on a limb. The band finished, so there was a terrible feeling of loss. The band was my family. We lost Freddie and my dad died at almost the same time. I didn’t want to love – I’d lost myself completely.

Last week the world remembered Freddie Mercury on what would have been his 65th birthday. Google’s homepage was dedicated to the singer and the remaining Queen members allowed their 1986 concert Queen – Live At Wembley Stadium to be streamed on YouTube for two days.
