The first segment of the Big Day Out 2012 line-up was delivered to us through Thursday night and Friday morning and so far reactions have been mixed. While alternative fans were happy to hear the announcement of 90’s grunge band Soundgarden, they were disappointed not to see rumoured acts Pearl Jam or Radiohead on the line-up.
Indie fans were looked after with the return of Foster The People and their thrilling live shows, upcoming Aussie acts Boy and Bear and The Jezabels, along with the word that we are sure to hear a whole bunch of other indie artists named on the second announcement.
Rap and hip hop fans were rapt to see Odd Future, Kayne West and Aussie boys Hilltop Hoods on the line-up. Although we’ve only just seen both Yeezy and Odd Future in recent months, both are the type of acts you would want to see any time they decide to visit our shores.
It seems the Big Day Out organisers have gone for a good mix of all genres for the 2012 festival. Covering all spectrum’s including indie, dance, hip hop, alternative and aussie rock just to name a few and the second line-up announcement is sure to follow in that direction.

Positives
– Soundgarden

– Odd Future (OFWGKTA) – Always a must a see, even if you’re not a hip hop fan
– Best Coast – Who did a pretty good show at Coachella
Negatives
– Kanye West a silver bullet for ticket sales?
– A number of bands from the Splendour 2011 Line-up were announced including Kayne West, Foster The People, Boy And Bear, Architecture in Helsinki & The Jezebels.
– No Pearl Jam, Radiohead or Red Hot Chili Peppers (so far)
– The drip fed line-up that required fans to wait on Facebook for 2 hours to find out one band every 10 minutes then have to get up early on the Friday morning to find out the headliners. Do we have to go through all that again for the next announcement?
