Andrew Morris – Needs and Wants

With a title like Needs and Wants, you’d expect an album to be another collection of songs about troubled romances, broken friendships and anything else that is sure to leave you feeling unnecessarily down about life. Thankfully, Andrew Morris’ fourth and latest effort not only avoids that but also does the opposite.

From the opening piano of Hilltop to the jazzy closer of Sunrise, Morris’ voice is ripe with passion while the music itself flows melodically underneath with a slight feel of blues to it. The colorful rhythms hook you in and leave you feeling somewhat uplifted. Even the more somber tracks like A Lonely Goodbye carry an air of happiness.

While the album itself is nothing particularly new or inventive, it provides a good listen for those moments where you just want to sit back, relax and not worry about all those things that weigh down on your thoughts. A step back from the rat race, Needs and Wants is an album that is simply about the music and it is nice to appreciate the sounds we already have instead of hurriedly moving on to the next big thing.
