Father of Nine-Year-Old Son Astroworld Victim Speaks Out

One of the youngest victims from last week’s Astroworld tragedy was Ezra Blount, a nine-year-old boy who sustained “life-threatening” injuries during the deadly crowd surge that left nine people dead and hundreds injured.

The young boy has remained in a medically-induced coma since he was trampled during the stampede, which occurred during Travis Scott’s headline set, and now his father Treston has shared his account of the incident.

“[Ezra] was stoked. He was ready to go,” Treston told ABC Houston 13, noting that he had taken his son towards the back of the stage to avoid the usual moshing that takes place at big events such as Astroworld.

“We was in the back, way in the back and I figured, ‘Okay, this is cool,’ because y’know, the front can get a little wild,” Treston said.

“The countdown started [and] everything was cool – for a split second.”

“It was like a horrifying movie.

“I’m yelling out ‘I can’t breathe,’ there are other people around me saying they can’t breathe. It was definitely a moment where I didn’t know what else to do.”

Treston himself fell unconscious in the crush and was made aware of his son’s condition in the aftermath of the event via a photo.

“Just to see him in that condition… I just wasn’t ready for that.”

“I could tell that he was damaged,” Treston added. “I’m not ready to lose my boy at all. We still got a bunch of living to do… that’s my boy.” Watch the interview below.

Ezra’s grandmother earlier this week revealed the extent of his injures to Rolling Stone, telling reporters that the young boy had suffered damage to “every organ.”

“He had cardiac arrest. His heart is weak and has damage as well. And his brain has swelling, and he’s in an induced coma. They’re just trying to keep him comfortable and trying to figure out a plan for him.

“They tried to take him off the medications that were paralysing him, to keep him still, and they had to put him back on.

“We’re just at that place right now, just hoping for the best in spite of all the negative information.”
