Harry Potter Cast To Reunite For ‘Return to Hogwarts’ 20th Anniversary Special

Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley are getting back together. No, not for after-work drinks after a long day at the office. Rather, the actors who portrayed the trio of iconic characters over the course of ten years and eight feature films will regroup for an HBO Max 20th anniversary special.

The anniversary specifically relates to Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first film in the Harry Potter film series. Adapted from J.K. Rowling’s best-selling novel from 1997, Philosopher’s Stone came out in November 2001. It was directed by Chris Columbus, who also directed the series’ second instalment, 2002’s Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Columbus will join Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Emma Watson (Hermione) and Rupert Grint (Ron) for the HBO special, which is titled Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.

Several other actors from the Harry Potter film series will make an appearance, including Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Robbie Coltrane (Rubeus Hagrid), Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort), Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy), Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and many more.

According to a statement from HBO MaxReturn to Hogwarts will tell “an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations.”

Return to Hogwarts is set to land on HBO Max on Saturday, 1st January 2022. Details of its Australian release are to be confirmed, though Foxtel usually has the rights to HBO productions. Check out the trailer below.
