Listen To Allday’s Breezy, Triumphant New Single ‘Eyes On The Prize’

After dipping his toes into alt-rock territory with latest album Drinking with My Smoking Friends earlier this year, Allday has returned to his rap foundations with a new standalone single, ‘Eyes on the Prize’.

The new cut pairs Tom Gaynor’s buoyant vocal delivery with a triumphant beat oriented around soaring synth horns and 808 claps. There’s a relaxed, carefree energy throughout that offsets some of the heavier themes that have permeated Gaynor’s Allday output in the last few years.

“The day I started this beat I was wearing a world cup soccer t-shirt that said “EYES ON THE PRIZE” and that sounded like a good title,” he explains.

“I took it to Simon Lam to finish the beat. I was just saying lines into the mic to make Simon laugh. We thought it sounded pretty fun so that is the song. It’s not too deep. After making other genres for a while, making rap is fun again.”

Drinking with My Smoking Friends, Gaynor’s fourth studio album under the Allday banner, arrived back in May after being previewed with singles like ‘After All This Time’, ‘Void’ and ‘Stolen Cars’. He’s set to make a slew of festival appearances in coming months at the likes of Field Day, For the Love and Yours & Owls before kicking off a rescheduled launch tour for Drinking with My Smoking Friends in February.
