One of shock rocker Marilyn Manson’s Grammy nominations for his appearance on Kanye Wests‘ ‘DONDA’ (formerly credited in two nominations, both for the ‘Album Of The Year’ category and ‘Best Rap Song’) has been dropped.
The news comes following a public outcry against Manson’s inclusion in the nominees, due to a myriad of sexual assault allegations and ongoing police investigations against him.
Last week the Recording Academy doubled down on their inclusion of Manson, with CEO Harvey Mason Jr stating that “We won’t look back at people’s history, we won’t look at their criminal record, we won’t look at anything other than the legality within our rules of, ‘Is this recording for this work-eligible based on date and other criteria?’ If it is, they can submit for consideration.”
However, it appears there might be movement on Manson’s involvement with the awards, with the singer’s name quietly removed from the ticket following the academy’s decision to recognise ‘Jail’ as a contender for ‘Best Rap Song’ – not ‘Jail pt.2’, a song on which Manson was credited as a writer.
Manson remains credited for ‘DONDA’, which is up against the likes of Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift in the album of the year category.
