Nick Murphy (AKA Chet Faker) Announces Debut Album With New Band, The Program

The man who likes to keep our Feeds on their toes, Nick Murphy AKA Chet Faker AKA Nick Murphy has announced a brand new album coming in hot.

Dubbed Take In The Roses, the LP will mark Murphy’s first outing with his new band The Program, which features his mates Nick Kinsey (Waxahatchee, Kevin Morby), Jake Falby (Chet Faker, Julie Byrne), Tim Lappin and Tim Mislock.

What’s more, you won’t have to wait long to get it into your ears, because the disc is due to drop in full this Friday, 10th December.

Created before the pandemic (and Murphy’s long-COVID diagnosis) at the legendary Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, Take In The Roses was recorded almost entirely live. And, according to a press statement, its Americana influences set it apart from this year’s acclaimed Chet Faker record, Hotel Surrender.

“This record is important for a lot of reasons, but if I had to choose one, it’s that it was fun to make,” Murphy explains.

We don’t have any music from the record to listen to yet, but the focus single will be a track titled ‘Old Dog’, which we’re told will feature a music video pieced together from footage of a road trip Murphy took with his late father.

“I had these super8 rolls from a road trip with my dad. I can’t really imagine anything else for the song. That wasn’t the plan of course. It never is,” Murphy explains.

Set your alarms for Friday and pre-order the album here.
