Anchorman Actor David Koechner Spends NYE In Jail

Dave Koechner, best known for playing sports reporter Champ Kind in the Anchorman films, was arrested on New Year’s Eve for drink driving.

TMZ reports Koechner was pulled over in Simi Valley, California on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit and run. Koechner was pulled over at 3pm local time on Friday, 31st December before being taken to Ventura County Jail, located roughly 65kms from Downtown Los Angeles. Koechner registered a roadside blood alcohol concentration of 0.13%. It dropped to 0.12% by the time he reached the police station. For context, 0.08% is the legal limit in California; in Australia, it’s 0.05%.

Police were apparently alerted to a wayward driver in Simi Valley and soon found Koechner, who is alleged to have hit a street sign with his car. Koechner was let go the following morning and will attend court in March. TMZ suggests it’s Koechner’s first run-in with the law in California, which should help soften the punishment.

In addition to co-starring in the Anchorman films, Koechner played the alcoholic sales representative, Todd Packer, in the US version of The Office. More recently, Koechner has been a regular on The Goldbergs and appeared as Detective Fusco in the rebooted Twin Peaks.
