Jaguar Jonze Goes Nu Metal On New Single ‘Cut’

Jaguar Jonze has released the new single, ‘Cut’. It’s Jonze’s first single since last year’s Death From Above-referencing ‘Who Died And Made You King?’, a takedown of former Sony Music CEO Denis Handlin.

‘Cut’ showcases a heavier sound for the Taiwanese-Australian singer, producer and songwriter, whose real name is Deena Lynch. The lyrics focus on an unbalanced working relationship and the process of getting out of such a situation.

“‘Cut’ is the anger behind realising that people you trusted professionally have been gaslighting you and manipulating your reality – constantly taking from you in a one-way transaction,” Jonze said in a statement. “Once I realised what was happening, it was a long journey of breaking free from those environments and, more importantly, understanding that what happened had nothing to do with me.”

Jonze wrote ‘Cut’ with Aidan Hogg, Joseph Fallon, Jacob Mann and Steven Schram; Hogg and Jonze co-produced the track. It’s out now via Nettwerk Records, along with a music video directed and edited by Jonze with cinematography from Cody Wood.

“I wanted a physical interpretation of the meaning behind my song ‘Cut’ in the music video that was riding the fine line between shocking, engaging, maniacal, determined, comedic, and angry,” Jonze said. “I only had two weeks to put the concept together, shoot it and edit it. I’m so proud of what was created in that pressure-cooker environment.” Take a look below.
