PREMIERE: R&B Duo, Buttered, Dip Their Toes In Pop On New Track ‘Reborn’

Gold Coast band Buttered are no strangers to R&B and soul grooves. But the duo of Scott Dalton and Jackson Smith edge closer to pop music on their latest single, ‘Reborn’, which is premiering exclusively on Music Feeds.

The stylistic orientation of ‘Reborn’ – which will get a wider release on Thursday, 13th January – was informed by the band’s affection for artists such as Anderson .Paak and Tom Misch.

“’Reborn’ was an experiment for us to explore a genre that we hadn’t really dipped our toes in before,” the band said. “We had been listening to a lot of Anderson .Paak, Tom Misch and even some Charlie Puth, which inspired us to make something that people could finally dance to.”

Lyrically, ‘Reborn’ is as loved up as it is hook-laden. “In true Buttered tradition we couldn’t resist the allure of another love song,” the band said. “At that point in time in our personal lives, it was all we wanted to write about.”

The primary aim, however, was to create something with the potential to unite a mass audience. “Basically we wanted to push ourselves outside of our comfort zone to produce something that could sit in the realm of pop music.”

Previous Buttered singles have garnered comparisons to Matt Corby and Frank Ocean; AAA Backstage went so far as to describe Buttered as the “lovechild of Matt Corby, D’Angelo and Parcels.” Listen to ‘Reborn’ below.
