Camp Cope Announce New Album ‘Running With The Hurricane’ And Share Title Track

After returning last year with its lead single ‘Blue’, Melbourne trio Camp Cope have announced their third studio album, Running with the Hurricane.

The follow-up to 2018’s How to Socialise & Make Friends is set to arrive on Friday, 25th March via Poison City Records. It was recorded with Anna Laverty at Sing Sing Recording Studios – who co-produced the album alongside Maq – and features guest instrumental contributions from Courtney Barnett and Cable Ties‘ Shauna Boyle.

“The first record was us diving into whatever Camp Cope created, the second album was us when we were in the thick of it, and then this album is about how we’ve come out the other side,” bandleader Georgia Maq explains. “And we’ve come out stronger, more loving, more peaceful and better friends.”

To coincide with the album’s announcement, the band have shared its title track. Named after the Redgum song – a nod to Maq’s late father, Redgum’s Hugh McDonald – ‘Running with the Hurricane’ is an emotive slow-burner that sees Maq meditate on going through it, “push[ing] through the pain” and emerging stronger for it. “The only way out is up,” she sings.

On the track, Maq’s voice and guitar chords are anchored by Kelly Dawn-Hellmrich’s distinctive, melodic bass playing and Sarah Thompson’s robust drumming. It’s filled out with soaring vocal harmonies and flourishes of piano. Listen to the track – and see its’ cover art and tracklist – below.
