Kanye Wants “Final Edit And Approval” Of Upcoming ‘Jeen-Yuhs’ Doco

Kanye West (the artist also known as Ye) wants the final say over the upcoming documentary film, jeen-yuhs.

The three-part jeen-yuhs documentary is due to arrive on Netflix next month. The film was directed by Coodie & Chike, whose first collaboration was the video for Ye’s debut single, ‘Through the Wire’ (2003).

jeen-yuhs includes footage captured over the course of Ye’s two decade career; the first look teaser shows Ye and Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) in New York, in 2002, riffing on the College Dropout track, ‘Two Words’.

Netflix describes the film as “an intimate and revealing portrait of Kanye’s experience, showcasing both his formative days trying to break through and his life today as a global brand and artist.” However, Kanye wants the final say before the film is released. He posted the following message on Instagram this past Friday, 21st January:

I’m going to say this kindly for the last time

I must get final edit and approval on this doc before it releases on Netflix

Open the edit room immediately so I can be in charge of my own image

Thank you in advance

jeen-yuhs was due to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah this weekend, but reports of its premiere are yet to emerge. If all goes to plan it’ll land on Netflix on Wednesday, 16th February. Watch the trailer below.
