5 Must Have Looks for Return of Live Music

Once the tickets are sorted, half the battle of planning the perfect gig is finding the right outfit. I’m speaking from experience when I say that the wrong pair of shoes or a fire but impractical AF outfit can ruin the night.

But if almost two years of loungewear and live-streamed concerts has got you stumped for what to wear, I’ve got you covered. As a seasoned live music veteran, I’ve rounded up five fool-proof outfits to add to your rotation just in time for your next gig.

Classic rock: Band t-shirt and jeans

As someone with a sizable and slightly unhinged merch collection, I can vouch that you can never go wrong with a good ol’ band tee. Not only are they super comfortable, but they also age like fine wine. So the more moshpit-related wear and tear it endures, the cooler it’ll look. Chuck on your fave graphic tee with blue Levi’s and Converse and you’re good to go.

Festival ready: Sundress and denim jacket

Summer is peak festival season, but it can be tricky to pick a look that’ll stop you from getting heat stroke during the day and keep you comfy after the sun goes down. A solid day-to-night combo is a breezy summer dress and a denim jacket.

If you can, go for a denim jacket on the thinner side. That way it won’t be too bulky to tie around your waist or carry during the day but will keep you warm at night. Pop on some comfy sneakers or Doc Martens and you’ve got yourself a gig-ready lewk.

Why not live your full Coachella fantasy or throwback to the ‘70s with a boho look? Wear a floral maxi dress with boots, tuck a lacey white blouse into denim shorts or channel Penny Lane with flares, tinted sunglasses and an Afghan coat. Not only is it a quintessential rock n roll aesthetic, but most pieces are made with relaxed fits and airy fabrics that are fab for a night of dancing.

Country chic: Double denim, wide-brim hats and cowboy boots

Wild, wild west-inspired fashion has come around the mountain again and it’s a vibe that’s made to rock at a gig. Go full honky tonk in double denim, top off your festival ‘fit with a sun-safe wide brim hat or don a pair of cowboy boots that’ll keep your tootsies protected on the dance floor. Yee-and I cannot stress this enough-haw!

The party shirt: Loud button down

This may be a controversial yet brave opinion, but there’s a reason why the party shirt has become a live music staple. They’re comfortable, lightweight and make it easier for your mates to spot you in a crowd. This summer I’m vibing with pastel stripes, floral numbers and retro Hawaiian prints. Whatever style you go for, I’d recommend picking up an oversized fit that’ll be comfy to boogie in.
