Luke Steele Announces Debut Solo Album & Releases First Single

Luke Steele, of Empire of the Sun and The Sleepy Jackson fame, will release his début solo album, Listen to the Water, in May 2022.

The album is set to arrive fewer than 12 months after the début album from H3000, a collaboration between Steele and producer Jarrad Rogers. Steele’s first single solo single, ‘Common Man’, is available now along with an official music video.

“I’m taking you on a journey to myself,” Steele said in a statement regarding Listen to the Water. “This solo record was a chance for me to be naked, fearless and on my own. That was confronting.”

He continued: “There was salvation and sadness, dreams and nightmares, heroes and villains. Strange changes, epiphanies, miracles and madness.”

If ‘Common Man’ is anything to go by, there was also acoustic guitars, facial hair and cowboy hats. It’s a more intimate release than anything we’ve heard from Steele since his Sleepy Jackson days in the mid-00s.

“’Common Man’ is about the underdog. The working class, forever hustling, but sometimes it gets too much. Finding a place of rest is unpredictable, it comes in waves. But the triumph is born from that struggle and you’ll see the glory within all the moments and tests,” Steele said.

Watch the ‘Common Man’ music video below. Listen to the Water is due out on Friday, 13th May.
