2000s Teen Star Amanda Bynes Files To End Her Conservatorship

Amanda Bynes, star of various noughties teen comedies, is following Britney Spears’ lead and filing to end her conservatorship.

Amanda Bynes’ mother, Lynn Bynes, has been her daughter’s conservator since 2013. In 2014, Amanda revealed she’d been diagnosed with bipolar. In a 2018 interview with PaperBynes spoke of her past battles with drug abuse, including cocaine, MDMA and Adderall. She said she was, at that time, four years’ sober.

Now, People reports that Bynes, 35, and her lawyer, David A. Esquibias, want the conservatorship to end as they believe Bynes’ “condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary.”

Bynes was born in 1986 and started her career as a lead cast member on the Nickelodeon comedy series, All That. Bynes joined the show for its third season, in 1996, and stuck around until the end of the sixth season, in 2001.

Bynes then graduated to the big screen, starring alongside Malcolm in the Middle‘s Frankie Muniz in the 2002 comedy, Big Fat Liar. Bynes played the lead character, Daphne Reynolds, in 2003 teen comedy, What a Girl Wants, and starred opposite Channing Tatum in 2006’s She’s the Man.

Bynes’ box office success continued with 2007’s Hairspray, but her upward trajectory stalled somewhat in the years afterward. Following 2010’s Easy A , the 24 year old Bynes announced a hiatus from acting.
