Meg Mac Returns With New Single ‘Is It Worth Being Sad’

Meg Mac’s first single of the 2020s is here. It’s called ‘Is It Worth Being Sad’ and it’s out today via EMI Music Australia.

The last time we heard from the Sydney-based Meg Mac was on her 2019 mini-album, Hope. Hope contained the singles ‘Something Tells Me’ and ‘Give Me My Name Back’. Stack mag’s Jeff Jenkins said of the album, “Meg Mac doesn’t exactly sound like Adele, but it’s a valid comparison, because her voice is capable of soaring even when she’s in pain.”

It’s an observation that applies to ‘Is It Worth Being Sad’, one of Mac’s most anthemic, torch songs to date. The track was created alongside production duo The Donuts, whose production featured prominently on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: The Album. The emotional intensity of the track reflects Mac’s state of mind during its composition.

“I had just run away to the country,” Mac said in a statement. “I was running away from my troubles. I was living in peace and quiet, finally, and really thought I’d figured it all out and it was all smooth sailing ahead. It was the start of sorting out my life. This song was like my first step – I didn’t know it then, though.”

Mac has released a music video for ‘Is It Worth Being Sad’, directed by Alissa Torvinen and shot in Portland. Watch it below.
