Charli XCX Releases New Single ‘Baby’ From Upcoming Album ‘Crash’

Charli XCX will release her fifth album, Crash, on Friday, 18th March. The album’s fourth single, ‘Baby’, is out today, along with an accompanying music video.

Charli spoke to Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe about the origins of ‘Baby’. “I was working on it with Justin Raisen and we’d done a lot together for my first ever album, True Romance,” she said. Raisen and his brother, Jeremiah Raisen (aka Sad Pony), produced and co-wrote ‘Baby’.

Justin Raisen not only worked on multiple tracks from True Romance (2013), but both Raisens worked on Charli XCX’s second album, Sucker (2014). Justin Raisen’s other credits include Angel Olsen, Yves Tumor, Kim Gordon and Viagra Boys.

“It kind of felt cyclical to go back in with him again on what is my final record in my deal with Atlantic,” Charli told Zane Lowe. The UK pop artist said ‘Baby’ was written early in the process and provided the foundation for “the vibe of the album.”

She went on, “It’s probably the most sexy song I’ve ever made. It’s about sex and sexuality and having good sex and just feeling yourself essentially. I knew that that was the tone I wanted to carry across for the entire record. This kind of hyper-sexualised, feminine power zone was where I was feeling myself – and ‘Baby’ was the genesis of this.”
