Nick Cave, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers Cancel Russia Shows

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds have followed the example of artists such as Green Day, HEALTH and various others in cancelling an upcoming concert in Russia. The band has also pulled the pin on a scheduled performance in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.

In a statement posted to social media, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds wrote, “In light of currents events we have no choice but to cancel our shows in Russia and Ukraine which were due to take place this summer.

“Our thoughts and love go out to the brave people of Ukraine, their heroic leader, and all those suffering from this senseless war. Ukraine, we stand with you, and with all those in Russia who oppose this brutal act, and we pray that this madness is brought to a close soon.”

The Australian band were due to appear at Moscow’s Bol Festival on 18th June and Kyiv’s Palace of Sport on 19th August. The band does, however, have a show scheduled at Live Park in Rishon Lezion, Israel, which is likely to go ahead despite Israel’s apartheid against Palestinians.

Franz Ferdinand have cancelled their upcoming performances in Russia, explaining “the only reason for this is the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian state.” They also wrote, “We love Russia. This great country has inspired our band through its art and literature and since we first played there seventeen years ago, we have built a rich and deep relationship with our Russian fans.”

The Killers have ditched their appearance at Moscow’s Park Live Festival in July and Iggy Pop will no longer be playing in Moscow on 10th July.
