Madonna’s 1998 Hit ‘Frozen’ Gets Trap Remix Ft. Fireboy DML

‘Frozen’, the lead single from Madonna’s seventh album, Ray Of Light, regained relevance last year courtesy of a remix by Canadian DJ/producer Sickick.

Sickick’s trap-influenced remix of ‘Frozen’ grabbed attention on TikTok in early 2021 and was officially released in December. A brand new version has now been released, featuring a guest verse from Nigerian artist Fireboy DML.

The single – credited to Madonna Vs Sickick (Fireboy DML Remix) – comes with a music video directed by Ricardo Gomes. The video features both Madonna and Fireboy DML and revives some of the gothic sensibilities of Chris Cunningham’s original clip. Watch it below.

‘Frozen’ was released in conjunction with Ray Of Light in February 1998. It was Madonna’s first album of new music since 1994’s Bedtime Stories. Ray of Light was made in collaboration with British producer William Orbit (Beth Orton, Blur). Both ‘Frozen’ and the title track were incredibly successful singles – the former topped the UK chart and peaked at #2 in the US; both tracks achieved ARIA Gold accreditation.

Madonna’s latest album, Madame X, came out in June 2019. Last year, she appeared on The Blessed Madonna remix of Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitating’. Sickick is touring Australia and New Zealand in October 2022, playing shows in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Christchurch and Auckland. Fireboy DML’s next album, Playboy, is due later this year.
