The newly reformed original Black Sabbath line-up are currently planning a new album and world tour within the next year. But would that tour include Australia? Triple M reporter Renee Peterson asked the question, while at the band’s press conference at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in Los Angeles on the weekend.
“It would be nice to put that on the schedule,” they said. “It’s been a long time since the original band was in Australia, so I think it’s a must … We want to play some strong music for the Australian fans.”
The last time any form of Black Sabbath visited Australia was in 2007 when Ronny James Dio, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Vinny Appice toured as Heaven & Hell.
The band’s new album will be produced by Rick Rubin, with half the tracks already written. This will be the first album the original members have recorded together since 1978′s Never Say Die.
Rumours had been circulating earlier this year, and reports came in during August that the band had been secretly rehearsing together. Although Tommi Iommi then tried to deny the rumour, it actually seemed like he was just annoyed that it had got out there. Ozzy Osbourne has since spoken to the press a number of times confirming that the reunion was on the cards.
The official Black Sabbath reunion announcement came on Saturday morning at a press conference held at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in Los Angeles. The band will headline the 2012 Download Festival in the UK before embarking on a world tour.
