Obama Australian Visit: Gurrumul To Perform For President

President Obama has landed at Canberra Airport this afternoon and has a pretty tight schedule that will see him on our shores for just over 24 hours or so. But, he will find the time to watch a musical performance tomorrow afternoon from two of Australia’s current indigenous talents, Jessica Mauboy and multi-ARIA award nominated performer Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu.

Both Gurrumul and Mauboy were invited by The White House to play for the President when he arrives at Darwin RAAF base tomorrow afternoon, before addressing the Australian Defense troops. He’ll be in Darwin for less than two hours, then heading to Bali late tomorrow afternoon.

Gurrumul, who is a mulch-instrumentalist, picked up several NiMA awards in August and took to the road recently in support of his second album Rrakala.
