Watch Pearl Jam Pay Tribute To Taylor Hawkins With Live Foo Fighters Cover

Over the weekend, Pearl Jam paid tribute to late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins during their show at the Forum in Los Angeles. The band covered ‘Cold Day in the Sun’ live, a song from the Foos’ 2005 album In Your Honor that Hawkins wrote and sung lead vocals for.

Aptly, Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron – who performed with Hawkins in their project Nighttime Boogie Association – handled vocals and guitar for their rendition. Mark Guiliana filled in for Cameron on drums while Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Chad Smith played tambourine.

“It’s never easy when you lose someone. As you get older, you’ll notice it starts happening more and more. It’s just where you are on the timeline and where your friends are on the timeline. But sometimes, like this, it’s so unexpected,” Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder said before performing the song.

“It also makes it harder because he was someone who truly, truly loved living life on this planet. I guess the one thing we can be consoled by is the fact that he never wasted a moment, and he did live his life to the fullest. We just want more of it.”

Hawkins died in March of this year, aged 50, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across the world of music. “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” his bandmates wrote in a statement confirming the news at the time. “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.”
