Mallrat’s Debut Album ‘Butterfly Blue’ Is Out Today

Butterfly Blue is the debut album from Brisbane pop artist Mallrat. The album includes the singles, ‘Rockstar,’ ‘Your Love,’ ‘Surprise Me’ (feat. Azealia Banks), and ‘Teeth.’

Mallrat is the project of 23-year-old musician Grace Shaw. Shaw started making noise with her debut EP, Uninvited, released in 2016. Mallrat’s popularity gained a major boost courtesy of Shaw’s next EP, 2018’s In the Sky, which included the ARIA Platinum singles ‘Better’ and ‘Groceries,’ and the ARIA Gold single ‘UFO’ (feat. Allday). Mallrat’s third EP, Driving Music, came out in 2019. Its lead single, ‘Charlie,’ placed at #3 in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2019.

In a statement regarding Butterfly Blue, Mallrat said, “I’ve always valued music that is interesting, beautiful and unpretentious. Something timeless and not reactive. Butterfly Blue was made with that in mind. It’s a demonstration of not pretending to be anyone else.”

In addition to Azealia Banks’ guest vocal appearance, the album features collaborations with producers Jam City (Troye Sivan, Olivia Rodrigo), Staylz Fuego (Jack River, Khalid), Japanese Wallpaper, Alice Ivy, Tommy English (Ladyhawke, Broods), Konstantin Kersting (Tones And I, Eliza & the Delusionals) and more.

Butterfly Blue is out through Dew Process Recordings, the Brisbane-based label with Tkay Maidza, Mumford & Sons, London Grammar, Sam Fender, Eves Karydas, Bernard Fanning, Oh Wonder on its books. Mallrat is currently touring the UK with Conan Gray.
