Vera Blue Releases New Electropop Ballad ‘The Curse’

Vera Blue has released her first single of 2022. ‘The Curse’ is an electropop ballad that inhabits similar stylistic territory to ‘Mended’ from Blue’s debut album, Perennial.

Vera Blue’s Celia Pavey wrote ‘The Curse’ with Billy Johnston. Johnston co-produced the track with Andy Mak. “It’s been a long time since I’ve put out a song like this,” Pavey said in a statement. “I think it’s time to show those raw emotions again, in more of a deep, heavy way, with more sadness.”

‘The Curse’ will feature on Vera Blue’s second album, which is expected in the second half of 2022. The song’s raw subject matter is based on the experiences of someone close to Pavey. “When I see my friends hurting or going through something, it hurts just as much as it would if it were myself,” she said. “I am a big empath so raw emotions immediately come to the surface.”

Vera Blue released her debut album, Perennial, in 2017. Perennial featured the hit singles, ‘Regular Touch’, ‘Settle’ and ‘Hold’. Blue has released several singles and collaborations in the ensuing five years. In 2018, she released the ARIA Platinum ‘All the Pretty Girls’. In 2019, she appeared on Flume’s ‘Rushing Back’, which came in at #2 in triple j’s Hottest 100.

Vera Blue is supporting Flume at the Adelaide and Hobart dates of the producer’s Palaces world tour. More details here. Watch the music video for ‘The Curse’ below.
