Middle Kids’ Hannah Joy Will Make Her Feature Film Debut In ‘Christmess’

Middle Kids’ Hannah Joy is set to appear in her first feature film, titled Christmess.

The project, currently filming in Sydney, is directed by award-winning filmmaker Heath Davis (Book WeekLocusts), and stars Steve Le Marquand (Last Train To Freo) and Darren Gilshenan (No Activity) alongside Joy.

The holiday film sees the Middle Kids songwriter portray a ‘young, sharp tongued, gay musician in recovery’ named Joy, who comes into contact with Le Marquand’s character Chris Flint. A once famous actor, Flint takes a job as a Santa Claus and encounters his estranged daughter and infant grandson. Christmess revolves around Flint’s journey of staying sober to regain his relationship with his daughter.

Along with her role in the film, Hannah is also contributing original music to Christmess. We’re set to see more of Hannah throughout this year, with Middle Kids recently announced to be supporting Gang of Youths on their Australian tour in July.

Says director Heath Davis of their upcoming film, “I love Christmas movies, but I’ve never really seen a Christmas move that depicts the reality of what the holiday season is for many of us – crippling stress, anxiety, malaise and economic struggle, all too often underpinned by alcohol abuse. At its core, Christmess is a celebration of the human spirit, the kindness of strangers and the healing power of forgiveness.”
