Ukrainian Band Jinjer Granted Permission To Tour Europe

Ukraine metal act Jinjer will be allowed to exit the country to perform European tour dates and festival appearances, and have shared a new video for 2021 track ‘Call Me a Symbol’.

The band, who condemned Russia’s invasion of their homeland in February, will kick off their run this Friday (10th June) at Greenfield Festival in Switzerland, with some two dozen festival dates following including slots at Graspop in Belgium, Hellfest Open Air in France, Rockfest Barcelona, Tuska Festival in Finland, Bloodstock Open Air in the UK and Elbriot Festival in Germany.

Sandwiched within those dates, the band will also play an arena show in Poland opening for Slipknot. Earlier this year, following Ukraine’s invasion, Jinjer were forced to pull out of a planned support run on Slipknot’s Knotfest Roadshow North American tour. Early next year, they’ll link up with Bullet for My Valentine and Atreyu for a slew of European dates.

“We are very honored to announce that together with the help of the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture, we have successfully been granted permission to travel abroad as ambassadors of our country to raise funds and awareness about the war raging back home,” Jinjer bassist Eugene Abdukhanov commented in a statement. “This is a huge honor for us as a band and as citizens. We will do our part to make sure that this war stops as soon as possible! Come support, dance and scream your hearts out for Ukraine!”

To coincide with the news, the band have shared a new video for ‘Call Me a Symbol’, which opens their 2021 album Wallflowers. “This video marks the 105th day of Russian invasion of Ukraine. How many more days and nights will our people have to suffer this horrible war?” reads a message that’s shown at the beginning of the clip. “How many more lives will be lost before it is over? Help stop this war by donating for Ukraine, protesting and screaming at the top of your lungs. No war.”

The video is comprised of performance footage recorded during the band’s European tour last year. Watch that below. Jinjer are currently raising funds for Ukrainian relief efforts via their merch store. Check that out here.
