The Kooks Unveil New Dancefloor-Ready Single, ‘Cold Heart’

As beloved English indie icons The Kooks gear up to release their long-awaited sixth album next month, the group have shared their latest single, ‘Cold Heart’.

A disco-influenced, dancefloor ready indie-anthem, ‘Cold Heart’ undeniably serves as a stylistic shift for those who fell in love with the band’s early days, but showcases a continual evolution for The Kooks as they experiment with an electronic-influenced sound.

“The song is about reaching forgiveness and humour when you finally have some perspective,” explains frontman Luke Pritchard of ‘Cold Heart’. “At the end of the track we bring in the incredibly talented kids choir to represent the inner child talking to our future selves.

“Musically it was fun to incorporate some new progressive sounds to the mix but with the DNA of the band we’ve always had. We wanna make people dance with this one. We’ve all been there with someone who is compelling but unreachable, hope you all dig the track!”

‘Cold Heart’ is set to to appear on The Kooks’ forthcoming album, 10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark, when it arrives on 22nd July. Serving as their first new album since 2018’s Let’s Go Sunshine, the band have taken stock of what’s important over the last years, crafting a record that encapsulates who they truly are as a band.

“This album is a real thank you to our fans for sticking by us for so long, we hope you love it,” Pritchard was quoted as saying.

In breaking with tradition, The Kooks have taken a non-standard approach to releasing 10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark, having already shared six songs via a pair of three-track EPs. While ‘Cold Heart’ arrives today, a further three new songs will accompany the full album’s release next month.

10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark is set for release on 22nd July.
