Pond Sign To Modular Records – Release Label Debut ‘Beard Wives Denim’

Joseph Ryan, Nick Allbrook and Jay Watson aka. Western Australian band Pond have signed to Modular Records and will release their label debut record Beard Wives Denim in March next year.

Pond was born under a mulberry tree in Daglish, Western Australia. It was there that they conceived the idea of an album of tropical psychedelic idiocy that they performed that night at a friend’s party in North Perth. That album, recorded in their living room about twenty meters from the mulberry tree, was called Psychedelic Mango. Two more albums – Corridors of Blissterday (2009) and Frond (2010) – quickly followed.

Fast-forward two years, and Nick and Jay finally returned home to Perth after almost 18 months touring across the world with one of their other bands, Tame Impala. Reunited with Joseph, their thoughts returned to Pond: namely, the full length Beard Wives Denim that had been recorded in a ramshackle farmhouse over 2 weeks, right before Tame Impala started blowing up. With the album done, and a natural label home in Modular

Recordings, the time had come to unleash Beard Wives Denim into the wild.

Listen: Pond – Fantastic Explosion Of Time

Beard Wives Denim is an audio diary of ten friends’ strange, terrible and blissful time in the country trying in vain to be a wholesome family band. It sounds just like it, distorted and woozy and fractured and ultimately nostalgic and loving and coming to your closest hip and with it record vendor in 2012.

Beard Wives Denim will be out on March 2 via Modular Records.
