Van Halen Announce 2012 Tour With David Lee Roth + New Album

That’s right, for the first time since the release of 1984, David Lee Roth is working on a new album with Van Halen, as well as embarking on a tour with the band in early 2012. News confirming the tour has come in the form of a trailer released by the band. The clip featured below was shot on November 14 at The Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, California, and sees the band and Roth

performing a brand new song (the shots being taken from the yet-to-be-released track’s official video) set to the audio of several David Lee Roth-era classics, while this graphic below that the band have also released seems to suggest that we’ll have the as-yet-untitled new album on 7th of February next year.

The new album, however, is not only the first album the band have made with Roth in almost twenty years, it’s also the first album of their career to be released on Interscope Records, the band having left Warner Bros who they signed with back in 1977.

The album itself is said to be a throwback to the classic Van Halen sound, with Alterbridge guitarist Mark Tremonti saying in an interview that it sounded like “vintage Van Halen,” having had a chance to listen to it due to his friendship with bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, guitarist Eddie Van Halen‘s son who is replacing original bassist Michael Anthony.

Speaking to UltimateGuitar.com about the album producer Ross Hogarth has also given glowing reviews. “The whole Van Halen record has been recorded and we’re all excited,” he said. “I’m really stoked about it as it is the original band, Eddie and Alex with Wolf playing bass, and David Lee Roth singing. It’s the killing side of Van Halen at the top of their game again with Diamond Dave, and the band on fire.”
