Cee Lo Green Offends With Cover Of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’

Cee Lo Green has learnt a lesson about messing with a classic song after changing the lyrics for his cover version of John Lennon’s classic song Imagine.

The Sassy soulman performed the cover as his New Year’s Eve performance; unfortunately, the crowd didn’t welcome the singer’s new version too easily. Rather than perform the song as it was originally written, he decided to change the lyrics from “nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too” to “nothing to kill or die for, and all religion’s true.”

People instantly took to Twitter to show their disgust for the religious rewording, bashing the singer; some even wished death.

Green responded to fans via Twitter, saying that he “meant no disrespect by changing the lyrics.” He also explained that he didn’t mean to offend people, but wanted people to imagine, “a world where you could believe what you wanted.”
