Splendour 2012 Line-up Won’t Have Big Acts Like 2011

Splendour In The Grass organisers have confirmed that the 2012 line-up won’t feature big acts like last year. In 2011 the line-up featured Kanye West and Coldplay as headiners, however the event still failed to sell out.

Yesterday it was announced that Splendour In The Grass would move back to its original location at Belongil Fields in Byron Bay, and with a smaller venue comes a smaller line-up.

Update: Splendour in the Grass 2012 line up is here

Speaking with Noise11, festival producer Jessica Ducrou said:

Obviously moving from Woodford to Belongil Field, the venue is smaller; 17,500 is what we run at there. That obviously effects how much you can spend on your talent. No, we won’t be having acts like Kanye and Coldplay, who are some of the biggest acts in the world. We have some great bands people will be very happy with.

She also explained Splendour’s move to rule out The Stone Roses and Radiohead from the 2012 line-up:

We thought maybe we could have a new strategy and every week release who is not playing. Then by process of elimination people would work it out by the time we normally announce

In January, Music Feeds put The Cure on the rumour table for the 2012 line-up; so far the organisers are yet to rule them out as a headliner for the event. The question is, can they afford The Cure?
