Earl Sweatshirt Won’t Work With Odd Future Records

It seems Earl Sweatshirt never wanted to be freed from Samoa after all but was instead honing his skills in a bid to launch a solo career back in the US.  It appears he will not rejoin Tyler’s Odd Future and he may not release albums on the Odd Future records label.

Earl has been working under the guidance of Leila Steinberg, an artistic mentor who famously first guided music and screen icon, Tupac Shakur.

Leila Steinberg runs a not-for-profit education program called Alternative Intervention Models and she has issued a statement on Earl’s return:

Remotely for the past year, Earl has been busy sharpening and collaborating in virtually the same way as other  rappers, singers, poets, actors, athletes and dancers who have benefited from Leila’s over 25 year legacy of weekly writing workshops… [Earl] is on his way back home to Los Angeles where he will finish high school before launching the next phase of his widely anticipated rap career.

Yesterday it was reported that Earl did in fact turn up to New Roads School in Santa Monica, California and he also tweeted about his first day back:

@earlxsweat: First day back at school. Not bad at all. Whatever

It seems there may be some tension between Earl and the rest of the Odd Future crew. On the day Earl returned, Tyler tweeted:

@fucktyler: I’ve Never Been Excited And Angry At The Same Time Until Today. That’s A Fucked Feeling.

Just moments before Earl announced his return, Tyler confirmed he wouldn’t be appearing on the new Odd Future album, tweeting:

@fucktyler: That’s The Cover. And Earl Sweatshirt Will Not Be On the Tape. No Trolling Either

That was followed with another tweet:

@fucktyler: Oh. Thebe Has….I Mean Earl Has A Twitter. @earlxsweat

According to a number of past reports, Earl was annoyed that fans turned against his mother when he was actually in Samoa on his own accord.

It was only 3 weeks ago when Syd The Kid told Music Feeds she had no idea where Earl was, saying:

We don’t (talk about Earl) cause it hurts, he was a member of the family and he’s not here anymore and to everybody else it’s a media stunt, but it’s real, so no, we don’t talk about it (Earl) much.
